Teacher-led instruction combined with self-access to English Discoveries Online
An online English course with student forums.
English Discoveries (ex English +) online
The model includes:
· English Discoveries Online Placement Test, Courses and Community Site
· Face to face Teacher-led group lessons for a complete learning solution
· Personal meetings with Teacher or Tutor
· English Discoveries Online Student Workbooks (in development)
· English Discoveries Online Teacher Management System (TMS) for registration, follow up, communication
· English Discoveries Online Teacher Management System (TMS) for curriculum management and curriculum building by Institute/teacher
· Option of home access to English Discoveries Online
Duration of Course: 4 months
Computer component
o Students take English Discoveries Online Placement Test to assess their level.
o Teacher (Personal Tutor or Administrator) analyses results and assigns courses to students. (The option of customizing English Discoveries Online courses through TMS exists.)
o Teacher (or Personal Tutor) meets with student/s for orientation session and setting up individual English Discoveries Online Study Planner program. (approx. 1 ½ hours)
o Students study using English Discoveries Online courses and community site for 2-3 hrs a week minimum (2 x 1 ½ hrs) at Institute on an individual self-access basis.
Teacher-led lessons
o 1 fortnightly lesson (1-1 ½ hrs)
o The lessons provide follow-up to online material studied by students – especially speaking and communicative activities
o Teachers can use English Discoveries Online Student Workbook as basis for lessons
o Homework – minimum 1 hr a week (from English Discoveries Online Student Workbook) set and checked by teacher on a fortnightly basis
o The lessons will also provide preparation for the following computer sessions
Personal Progress Meetings
30 minutes, 1x month based on information from reports and TMS.
· Optional distance support – Teacher or Personal Tutor has the option of providing support via email, telephone and/or English Discoveries Online Contact Your Teacher (2 hrs a week)
· Home Access: The option of home access for learners to course exists.
